Ethernet LAN expansion kit
(supports PoE mesurement)
(For LE-8200A/8200)

OP-SB89

Overview

OP-SB89 is an expansion board for Ethernet LAN, inserting into a slot of battery drive portable data communication analyzer (LE-8200A/LE-8200). It supports the PoE (Power Over Ethernet) standard, and able to analyze the communications and power consumption at the same time.

Image of Use

Easy setup for a LAN (PoE supported) analyzer !!

Once the firmware of OP-SB89 is written to the analyzer, it can be used as a stand-alone analyzer that supports LAN communication and PoE measurement simply by replacing the interface board.

LAN Measurement Port
PORT A, B
On-line monitor, PoE measurement, Statistic analysis (Fail-safe TAP for PoE devices), PING function, Port blinking function (LAN port of10BASE-T/100BASE-TX)
LAN Measurement Port
PORT C
Cable test, PSE detection. Dummy PD (counterpart of PoE devide) port
External Trigger Port Automatically stops the on-line monitor when external signal connected to the TRG IN terminal becomes “L” level.

The line state sheet for the measurement target is attached. It fits snugly into the line-state LED part of the analyzer.

Monitor Function

It monitors Ethernet LAN and records the 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX data frames in the capture memory up to 100M bytes. It displays data on the LCD or filter only specific frames. It has the Fail-safe TAP no to affect the communications between the devices when power shortage of analyzer.

REPEAT online mode for continuous recording

Beside "ONLINE" mode, the new“REPEAT” mode can display measured data at real time and save data into the external memory automatically.

[ Modes ]

Monitor Mode ONLINE REPEAT
Measuring Stop measuring after saving data in the 100M byte Buffer memory. Use the two-divided Buffer memory alternately.
Real time display No Yes
Auto save No Record continuously into the external memory up to 64G byte.
Capturing Capability High Not good as "ONLINE" mode because it adds the processes of dispaying and saving data.
Use for Record all frames for high volume of data. Record continuously for small volume of data.
Data Use

Measured data can be converted into pcap format by the utility software (lepcapcvt), and analyzed using the Ethereal and Wireshark (free software). Furthermore, data can be used in the PC by transferring it via the external memory card.

*1 A USB cable is not provided with the product. Prepare a USB cable if you intend to use USB connection. The LE2-8V AUX cable provided to the analyzer is available in the case of serial connection.
*2 LE-8200A/LE-8200 can save data in the CF card. An interface to read the CF card is required on the PC side.
*3 LE-8200A can save data in the USB flash drive.

PoE Measurement

OP-SB89 has the isolation transformer for PoE and connects not only the common LAN cables but also the LAN cables for PoE devices. It is able to use as the Power logger of PoE and also communication analysis. PoE measurement data can be saved in the external memory as CSV format file and used by the table calculation software on the PC.
It can measure the Voltage, Current, Power consumption of PD devicek and record mas 4 million of data and tell the statement (OK/NG). It is useful for the devices when it is hard to get their power source, such as Network cameras, access points for wireless LAN, IP telephones.

PSE Judgment

Port C has the dummy PD function. When the PSE device(supporting PoE) is connected to the port C, analyzer will be the PD device and measure the power consumption from the PSE devices.

< Connection image >

< Indicator of power supply >

By connecting PSE device to port A(or B) and connecting port C and port B (orA), analyzer will be the PD device and able to analyze the power consumption.

< Connection image of power consumption using port A/B/C >

Cable test

One of the LAN ports will be the cable test port and able to check the LAN cables. It is able to measure the 3-120m LAN cable by TDR method. It also finds the short circuit, split pair and snapping, and displays on the LED.

PING function, Port-blinking function

OP-SB89 has the PING function for linking test, and port-blinking function to find the specific cable to easily fin the cable from the large numbers of other cables. This is not only useful for developing LAN devices but also for installing the LAN devices in the building.
